I want to start my update first with two verses. First, Luke 9:26
For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
Second, Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Before the event, we were warned by a ministry on campus I highly support and pray for, that we should stay away from campus. The gospel is on thin ice at Elon. The rules on the campus are you can not approach students with the gospel first, they must come to you. This is the first time the campus has been exposed to street preaching like this. We do not preach on the campus property, just across the street from it in condensed traffic on public property. But we were warned to not preach, and be mindful of others who serve on the campus. We love those who serve behind the scenes on campus in the name of Jesus. We are not associated with them, but we pray heavily for those who reach out any way they can for the gospel. But we found it best to obey God rather than men in this matter. We still went in faith and preached! The Lord blessed it too!
I had Jon Kucewicz, Gary Purgason, Ralph Joseph, and Wes Durr who is recently new to street evangelism. We set up at the same spot next to Elon Community Church again which is a liberal LGBT church, but it is the best public property spot. We preached for a while with signs up on the wall and we would stand on the wall to elevate ourselves. But someone called the police on us for trespassing on Elon Community Church property. The officer was very nice and I respected him. He basically told me the wall we were leaning stuff against and standing on was church property. They took my name down but then shook my hand and were respectful. It is kind of ironic getting a trespass warning for preaching the gospel on a church property.
We preached until 2:30, the traffic was very condensed so many people heard the gospel preached and several gospel tracts were taken. It was encouraging to see believers tell us what we were doing was great and it encouraged their faith. We are thankful the Lord kept us safe. We will adjust things by using a step ladder and finding other means to prop signs up. The next game will be Saturday, October 12th, kickoff is at 2 pm plan to be there around 11:00 am. You can park behind Elon Community Church for free.
