Have you ever had someone, Pastor, Deacon, official, friend or even an enemy tell you that they did not agree with or approve of you telling people about Jesus? I guess they assumed that per their message you would simply agree with them and say, “Ok, I’ll quit.”
Did anyone ever tell Jesus to quit?
Here’s a couple of examples:
Matthew 12:46-47, “While He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him. Someone said to Him, “Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside seeking to speak to You.”
Matthew 12:24, “But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons.”
Luke 13:10-14, “And He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And there was a woman who for eighteen years had had a sickness caused by a spirit; and she was bent double, and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your sickness.” And He laid His hands on her; and immediately she was made erect again and began glorifying God. But the synagogue official, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, began saying to the crowd in response, “There are six days in which work should be done; so come during them and get healed, and not on the Sabbath day.”
What was Jesus’ responses? Did Jesus quit?
To the first challenge He said: Matthew 12:48-50, “But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him and said, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said,“Behold My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.”
To the second He said: Matthew 12:25-30, “And knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, “Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and any city or house divided against itself will not stand. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand? If I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? For this reason they will be your judges. But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. Or how can anyone enter the strong man’s house and carry off his property, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house.
The best verse is 30, “He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.”
The last challenge Jesus says: Luke 13:15-17, “But the Lord answered him and said, “You hypocrites, does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead him away to water him? And this woman, a daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan has bound for eighteen long years, should she not have been released from this bond on the Sabbath day?” As He said this, all His opponents were being humiliated; and the entire crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things being done by Him.
Clearly Jesus never quit in the face of opposition and neither should you. Regardless of who told Him to stop, or that He was wrong, etc. Jesus never quit. He was on a mission. A mission to preach and teach the Kingdom of God and to go to the cross.
Praise God Jesus Christ never quit.
