04/03-05/25 – River Walk San Antonio Final Four
Praise God for a powerful weekend of Gospel proclamation with Sports Fan Outreach #sfoi in San Antonio during the Final Four. The River Walk bar scene was flooded with people, and by God’s grace we were able to preach freely for hours, pass out over 1,500 tracts, and hand out two Bibles.
Key Encounters:
• Chris, whose family was in town because they play for Duke, said he witnessed a demonically possessed man reacting violently to the preaching which led him to approach us, seeking freedom from his bipolar disorder. He shared that he believes God speaks to him through colors. I redirected him to the authority of God’s revealed Word and walked him through the Gospel. He acknowledged that this was not coincidence but God drawing him. He said he wanted to be “as white as my shirt”—forgiven and made new with a clean slate. We exchanged numbers to follow up.
• Had two conversations with Jehovah’s Witnesses, both of which led to opportunities to point to the deity of Christ and expose their false doctrine.
• Keith and Angel came over feeling convicted and thanked us for preaching out there.
• Carmen, a homeless woman, recited large portions of Scripture and claimed to know Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. She lacked assurance of salvation and asked to be discipled. It was a strange but memorable conversation. She received a Bible and asked for a solid local church that should could attend on Sunday.
• Dianna, a believer, thanked us and said the preaching in the open air was convicting and encouraged her to share her faith more boldly.
• Erica, a woman with her dog, came asking for prayer. She and her friend were shaken by a drunken man who she said “manifested” a demon. We shared that true deliverance is found in Christ alone and presented the Gospel to her, as it seemed she herself was unfamiliar with it and led her to tears.
• Kenny, a young man who said he believes in Christ but lacks assurance, heard the Gospel clearly and wanted to get right with God right on the spot.
• Sanchez, about to head off to military, initially rejected a tract but was later overheard discussing it with his friends. I approached and asked what he thought would happen when he dies. His friends walked off, but he stayed and engaged in a deep Gospel conversation. He said he wasn’t sure of his eternal state at first but thanked me for the bold warning and conversation about how he can have assurance of everlasting life in Christ today. He took a Bible and was exhorted to seek the Lord while preparing for enlisting into the military.
• Tammy, who saw her daughter talking to Jehovah’s Witnesses, took a tract. I shared why the JWs are a cult, and she later returned to read our sign and ask why we believe we are going to Heaven. We told her it’s by Christ alone. She then revealed she was Catholic, which opened up a Gospel discussion with her and asked how she could have true freedom from her alcoholism addiction and shared how true freedom is found in Christ alone, for whom the Son sets free shall be free indeed.
• Bryson stopped to listen to the preaching. He was trusting in his own repentance and prayer life. I pointed him to Christ alone, and after hearing the Gospel, he asked for prayer and said he needed that message tonight.
• Joe, who had a mixture of moralism, Judaism, and Christianity in his beliefs, claimed God’s name was “Yahua.” After walking him through Scripture and the Gospel, he came to understand the biblical truth of eternal security and salvation by grace alone.
• A young man recognized us from social media, asked for a hug, and later approached Jason asking for prayer to discern if it’s God’s will for him to join the military.
• To top it all off, while filming for our open-air preaching documentary, our videographer was stirred up to lift up his voice and preach the Gospel for the very first time—and he loved it!
A beautiful and fruitful weekend. Please pray for all these precious souls we encountered, that the Lord would water the seeds sown and bring forth a harvest of souls for His glory.
