Salam (pictured above) grew up in the small village of Nongola, Bogura, Bangladesh, where his family practiced Islam with deep devotion. From a young age, Salam was taught to uphold the traditions and teachings of his faith, and he carried these beliefs into adulthood. His life was centered around his family, his community, and his work as a local merchant.
One day, while traveling to a neighboring city for business, Salam met a Christian missionary named Ripon. Ripon was part of a small group quietly serving and helping people in various ways. Salam was initially wary of Ripon and his group, given his background and the religious tensions in the region. However, their genuine kindness and commitment to helping others piqued his curiosity. During their brief encounter, Ripon and Salam exchanged pleasantries, and Ripon offered Salam a small booklet about Jesus Christ.
Salam accepted it out of politeness, though he had no intention of reading it. However, a few days later, while traveling back to his village, Salam found himself reflecting on the encounter and decided to read the booklet. As Salam read, he was struck by the story of Jesus—particularly the emphasis on love, forgiveness, and the idea that God loved everyone unconditionally. He was deeply moved by the message of grace and the concept of a personal relationship with God, which was quite different from what he had known.
Over the next several months, Salam found himself increasingly drawn to the teachings of Jesus. He began studying the Bible more deeply and seeking out information about Christianity. His exploration was not without challenges, as he faced criticism and opposition from his family and community, who were concerned about his changing beliefs. Despite these difficulties, Salam felt a profound sense of peace and purpose as he learned more about Christ.
He began attending a local church and joined a small Bible study group. The support and fellowship he found in this new community were instrumental in his spiritual growth. One evening, after much contemplation and prayer, Salam decided to publicly declare his faith in Jesus Christ. He was baptized in a small, private ceremony, surrounded by his new friends and fellow believers. It was a deeply emotional and transformative moment for him.
Salam's conversion was a life-changing experience. He felt a renewed sense of hope and direction and began sharing his faith with others, even as he continued to face challenges. His journey was marked by both trials and triumphs, but through it all, he experienced a profound transformation and a deepened relationship with God. Please pray for Salam as he continues to walk by faith in Him.
