Georgia Southern vs App State

Jason and son John were the only two at this game since team lead Grayson Shaw was in Alabama visiting family for Thanksgiving. People were moving fast, and were on a mission to get into the game.

There was a party atmosphere in the air and Jason preached and John held a sign. They talked to a few people and most were either “yes I believe” or hostile. Got a middle finger from a girl in her mid 20's who turned around to do so, and others wanted to be hostile, but when asked to engage they walked away. Was more hostile than it has been in previous games this year, but that is night games for you.

Jason asked some when they understood they believed and tried to get a little deeper with some people but wasn't able to get much substance out of them. Jason and John also talked to the parents of a player on the Detroit Lions who were positive, but not too deep.

There were lots of people who don’t believe Christ is the answer, but don’t have an answer themselves. Highest attendance so far this year from what Jason could gauge.

Outreach at the GSU vs Troy game went well.

I had 8 people there including myself, and a missionary who was home from the Philippines who usually goes and works with Alex Burt at Georgia reached out to me on Friday night about coming out and working with us. He got there early and passed out tracts, and the rest of us got there at 2:30.

We had Daniel Miles, Trevor Callaway and his girlfriend Maya, Eric Gray, Jason Wiltse and his son John, myself and Derek.

We ended up splitting into two groups of 4 since we had 8, and Derek led a group on one side of the stadium while I had another group where we normally stay. Eric got on the mic for the first time and did well reading in Isaiah and John. Jason and John held signs while engaging with people by the gate, and I stood by Eric as he preached, and preached on Proverbs 10-11 after he finished up.

We passed out a number of tracts and met a few people who said they were wanting to do ministry like what we were doing. There wasn’t much hostility overall.

GSU v James Madison

Outreach at the Georgia Southern vs James Madison game went well. We had Jason Wiltse (pastor of Liberty Church in Sylvania) and Daniel Miles in attendance. Jason held the “Are you going to heaven? Take the test signs and preached, I held signs and passed out tracts, and Daniel passed out tracts.

The foot traffic wasn’t as heavy this game as it has been in the past. I had a few good conversations, particuarly with a man named DJ and the woman that was with him and another man named Thomas Hill.

DJ and the woman realized the importance of knowing where they would spend eternity, and were open to going to a local church. Thomas was as well, and I got their phone numbers and invited them the next day. I sent DJ to Wesley’s (a fellow evangelist) church and I got a text back from him, but am not sure if he went. Did not hear from Thomas.

Jason was enthusiastic about the opportunity to evangelize, and engaged with many people.

It was a good, God honoring event.

The attendants were me and Wesley (the associate pastor at Thrive Church in Statesboro), because most people were either out of town or at a family function. I knew once we had gotten down to two that something unusual was going to happen, and it wasn’t quite on the scale that I thought it would be, but this game was different from the others. I bought some yard signs offline that have some messages on one side of them, and also a “Are you going to heaven, take the test” sign on the front. I preached for a while and he did as well, and I saw my friend from the adult baseball league for the second home game in a row. He came up and greeted me again.

There were many more drunken people in the crowd, and thus many more sarcastic comments and mocking charades. Nonetheless, we still had a few good conversations, and were able to pass out some tracts. Wesley did very well interacting with people, and had a good conversation with the ticket scanners at the gate, although they kept getting busy due to people needing to get into the game. Wesley later told me that the gatekeepers said that people were complaining about us being there, but they were taking up for us saying that we had freedom of speech and were within our rights.

We had several people from cars behind us ask what our “are you going to heaven” signs said, and we got to speak to the asker as well as the other people in the car with them. One of the guys in the backseat of a truck noticed my shirt and that we had gone to the same high school. He said he was a Christian, but the guy who asked the question in the front did not seem to be.

I also had a young man who claimed to be an atheist and who was also under the influence of alcohol come up to me and ask about taking the test. He said he would get into heaven as a result of predestination and how a priest told him he was going to heaven when he was young. When I started to ask him questions to engage him, his friend who said he was a Christian kept trying to get him to go into the game saying “not right now” and “I don’t want him to get saved while he is under the influence.” Eventually they went inside the game and I gave the guy a tract. He tried to give it back, but I told him he should keep it and read it in the morning when he sobered up.

I also had a guy in a car pull up behind me and drunkenly tell me he wanted to meet me later to tell me about him hemorrhoid. I gave him a thumbs up and told him I wouldn’t be there.

Outreach at the GSU game went well on 9/14. We met at 4:30, and I got there about 4:45 because I needed to find some ponchos for the guys since it was raining. We passed out a bunch of the SFOI tracts, and had Jim, Grayson and John Shaw preach.

We also had Daniel Miles, Wesley (last name unknown), Kaz (n/a), and Stephen Forrester there with the group. The last 3 were laborers that were added to the field from our first outreach when we met Wesley. He recruited Kaz and Stephen from his church.

The new guys did well, and there was one guy who prayed to receive Christ, and we got his phone number so that he could be invited to church.

Georgia Southern v Boise State Outreach Report

"We got to our parking spot meet up at around 2:30 and the last person to arrive got there at around 2:45. We made the 20 minute walk to our spot at the corner of Lanier Drive and Chandler Road and set up the speaker and got our signs and tracts out. The foot traffic there was pretty good, and we will set up near there if not in the same spot next time.

We had 6 people total (John Shaw, Jim Shaw, Eric Gray, Daniel Miles, Trevor Callaway and his girl friend Maya), and engaged in open air preaching, reading of scripture, holding signs that read “are you going to heaven, take the test” and passing out some gospel tracts.

We had a few who had never done street outreach before, so it was a good learning experience for them to hold signs and pass out tracts. We had a number of good conversations, and met a local associate pastor who said he would like to bring us next time. It was a good, God honoring event."
