11/20 - Boise State University #SFOI1000 Outreach (11/20/2021)
Tonight was our last BSU home football game outreach of the season. The Broncos squared off against Mountain West Conference rivals the Lobos of the University of New Mexico. Weather-wise, it was pretty much what you’d expect from a late season evening football game here in Idaho. It was a cold and clear evening at Albertsons Stadium with air temps in the upper 30’s and a “feels like” temp, just above freezing.
You may recognize our all-veteran outreach team— Jesse Tappert, Mike Burns and myself. And yes, we all got the memo that tonight’s game was a “blue” game, hence the blue Broncos hoodies.
As a team, we combined to pass our 500-600 Living Waters Million Dollar Bill (MDB) gospel tracts tonight. Yay Jesus Since this was our 5th home game outreach, many folks recalled getting MDB’s from us before, which is encouraging. As with most other outreaches, there is always a few folks who decline the tracts stating that they are already saved. To which I always reply with a challenge to take a couple of tracts and pass them out
Jesse was blessed with 4 separate gospel conversations tonight and I had one. Mine was with a young teenager, Cardell, who, when asked if he knew what the gospel was, stated that he did and he had gone through AWANAS at his church. I gave him two minutes to tell me what the gospel is. “Well”, he said, “it has something to do with God.” I gently explained the gospel and stressed the importance of being able to communicate it. You just never know when you might be faced with a real “life or death” situation (like the end of the Christian movie, “God’s NOT Dead”) where a few minutes matter.
Did I mention that it was cold? Because the crowd had noticeably thinned out, our outreach team decided to call it an outreach just a little bit before kickoff. At last check, the score was 24-0 BSU at the half!
Please pray for those who heard the gospel and received tracts. May the Holy Spirit give no rest or peace until these divine appointments humbly repent and trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior!
“For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.”
— 1 Corinthians 1:17

Looking Ahead:
We have two outreaches in mind for this coming week, we just haven’t nailed down exactly when. Most likely, we will be back out to the BSU campus this coming week (either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday) around midday. Then, possibly next Saturday, we will return to Indian Creek Plaza in Caldwell for the beginning of the winter season’s Winter Wonderland, probably in the early afternoon. Y’all are welcome to join us and we hope to see you there!
11/12 - Boise State University #SFOI1000 Outreach (11/12/2021)
Last night was the second to final Boise State home football game outreach of the season, at Albertsons Stadium. The Broncos faced off last night against the Wyoming Cowboys on the “blue” in front of over 35,000 fans on a brisk autumn evening Mountain West Conference game. And, as God’s perfect will allowed, last night’s outreach team consisted of just one servant (me). WOW— 35K to ONE!
At first glance, those are intimating odds. And apart from Christ, they would be. There is a tendency to sometimes feel alone in the Lord’s work— to feel outnumbered— but we are NOT!
We can take heart, this is an age old fear. Others, who have gone before have faced, and addressed, this same apprehension…
“Of whom shall I be afraid? One with God is a majority” (Martin Luther).
“A man with God is always in the majority” (John Knox).
See how the Lord reassured Joshua, of His presence, as he succeeded Moses, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).
Our Savior, after assigning the Great Commission to His servants, in Matthew 28:19, underscored His commitment in this commanded endeavor, in verse 20, to “…observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
And finally, the Apostle Paul asked this rhetorical question, Romans 8:31, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” And we all know the answer, NO ONE!
So, stepping out in my BSU blackout gear topped with my brown Resitol cowboy hat, I setup, once again, on Bronco Circle, just north of University Dr., directly opposite the “C” ticket gates. I was very comfortable as I interacted with both Bronco and Cowboy fans, alike. As Paul also said, in 1 Corinthians 9:22, “I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.”
Because I lacked partners, I felt it was prudent to simply pass out gospel tracts at this game. It is always best to have a team to support and vouch for the evangelist(s) who open air preach the Word.
By the Lord’s grace, I was able to pass out several hundred Patriotic Million Dollar Bills, quite a few Dino Bucks and two Trump Trillion Dollar Bill gospel tracts. PTL, most were warmly accepted, with very few rejections.
I was also blessed to meet a fellow believer, Gordon, who was serving as the local transport bus driver for the Wyoming Cowboys football team. I gave him my evangelism ministry card and encouraged him to join us at future games and outreach events. I also gave him a full pack of 100 Patriotic MDB’s to pass out to the team, after the game. May the Lord be glorified and Christ made known
Please pray for all those who received tracts. May the Lord give no rest or peace until these divine appointments humbly repent and trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior!
“And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man's foundation.”
— Romans 15:20

10/16 - Boise State University #SFOI1000 Outreach (10/16/2021)
Last night’s BSU football game outreach was blessed with more gorgeous fall weather! Temps were in the low 70’s, when we got to the stadium at 5pm, and dipped to around 68, shortly after kickoff at 7pm. There were some strong winds, but because they were out of the south they were pretty mild. Unfortunately, due to the windy conditions, I was forced to switch from my cowboy hat to a ball cap
For last night’s BSU game against the Air Force Falcons, we fielded our all-veteran outreach team— Jesse Tappert, Mike Burns and myself. Each home football games this season has a designated primary color theme; white, orange, blue or blackout. Last night was a “blue” game, meaning a blue shirt or jacket with BSU graphics. Our team certainly got the memo— we were all decked out in blue!
One highlight of the game was the U.S. Air Force flyover right before kickoff. Two A-10’s and two F-15 Eagles did a low pass flyover Albertsons Stadium to massive cheers from the crowd!
Jesse brought out his flip chart I.Q. Tests last night. We weren’t sure that this venue would be a good fit for this resource. Surprisingly, it turned out really well, as Jesse had at least 5-6 groups of people that he was able to share the gospel with.
All of his conversations went very well, except his last convo with an atheist. Jesse said that this atheist was very contentious, and he eventually walked away when Jesse began to discuss the sin issue.
I once again preached the inspirational sermon called, “That’s My King! Do You Know Him?”, a sermon preached many times by Rev. S.M. Lockridge (born Shadrach Meshach Lockridge). [1] This is such a great message, at venues like this, because the gospel can be inserted at virtually any point. That’s important in a fast-moving dynamic environment like a football game crowd. Also, every time I deliver this message, I get many people who are encouraged by it. Last night was no exception.
Mike passed out over 500 Patriotic Million Dollar Bills [2] and I passed out over 300 Halloween MDB’s. [3] Both are great tracts and were very well received!
Please pray for those who heard the gospel and received tracts. May the Holy Spirit give no rest or peace until these divine appointments humbly repent and trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior!
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
— 1 Corinthians 1:18

10/2 - Our second #SFOI1000 BSU game is in the books!
Boise State University #SFOI1000 Outreach (10/2/2021)
For our second BSU football game outreach, we were blessed with a nearly ideal fall day with blue skies and temps in the low 70’s. The Broncos opponent today was the Nevada Wolf Pack.
For a variety of reasons, today’s outreach team consisted of just Thomas Freeman and myself. But we remained confident in this, “…If God is for us, who can be against us” Rom. 8:31)? We made do, by sticking close together during the open-air messages and then splitting up to pass out tracts.
I was encouraged by many fans as I open-aired a couple of messages this afternoon. Many gave me fist bumps and thumbs up, as they streamed by. My first message was entitled “Game Plan” about a game plan for eternity. And my second was an inspirational sermon called, “That’s My King! Do You Know Him?”, a sermon preached many times by Rev. S.M. Lockridge (born Shadrach Meshach Lockridge). [1]
Every fist bump and thumbs up also gave assurances that the messages could be heard. Even in a bustling noisy environment, like an excited crowd at a football game. And we are also assured that, “God’s word shall not return…void, But it shall accomplish…and…prosper in the thing for which” it was sent (Isaiah 55:11). Praise only to God!
Thomas was really inspired to connect with the BSU fans and came prepared with some special Boise State blue and orange tracts today. He customized Living Waters curved illusion tracts into a special edition BSU orange and blue set of tracts. He took a BLUE curved card (from the original blue and red set) [2] and combined it with an ORANGE curved (from the Halloween illusion set). [3] Pretty cleaver! “I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some” (1 Corinthians 9:22).
And, as you can tell from the many pics of fans with Million Dollar Bill tracts, they were warmly received. Another metric as to their popularity is the fact that people retain them. That is typically evidenced by how many are thrown away and are laying on the ground. Today I found just one! PTL!
Please pray for those who heard the gospel and received tracts. May the Holy Spirit give no rest or peace until these divine appointments repent and trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior!

9/18 - We are getting ready for tonight’s Boise State #sfoi1000 outreach at #AlbertsonsStadium beginning around 5pm MT. Kick-off is at 7pm. If you’re local Treasure Valley, you’re welcome to join us. Please pray.
Rejoice with our team as the Word of the Lord went boldly forth at tonight’s game! Boise State #SFOI1000 Outreach at #AlbertsonsStadium #sfoi #evangelism #openairpreaching
Boise State University SFOI Outreach (9/18/2021)
Praise be to the Lord, we were blessed to outreach our very first BSU football game tonight. It was a very blustery fall-type evening at Albertsons Stadium with threatening rain as temp dropped from the mid 80’s to high 60’s in the few hours we were there. Winds were 35-40mph with some higher gusts.
But, PTL, that didn’t deter any of the fans as we were swamped with crowds of people lining up to get into the stadium. Our team, Mike Burns, Jesse and Emma Tappert and my wife Rosie were hard pressed to keep up with the demand for Million Dollar Bill (MDB) tracts. In less that two hours we’ll over a thousand MDB’s were handed out!
After we had established a good preaching position, across the street from one of the main entrances, I began to open-air without amplification. After a short while, I decided to amplify and preached a couple of more times.
I was taking a little break when I noticed a group of campus security and Boise PD officers gathering on the opposite side of the street. One final officer arrived and then the whole group 6-8 officers came across the street straight towards me. Could it have been something I said?
That final arriving officer asked me if I knew the amplification policy on campus, which I didn’t. I said “no problem, I don’t need to amplify.” They we could do anything except amplify, to which I replied “that’s OK, because I still had my voice.”
Jesse and I further clarified with them that we could still pass out tracts and preach the gospel. We could also preach in to crowds directly in front of the stadium as long as we didn’t interfere with the movement of the crowd. Wow, what a blessing!
I immediately moved across the street and was preaching elbow to elbow with the fans waiting to get into the game. Who needs to amplify when you are that close?
We had a few hecklers, but many more who were appreciative of the message. One young man began to give me affirmations, so I thought he was a believer. Nope, he started to heckle instead. Jesse noticed and took him aside where he got more profane and finally left.
Another man came up to Jesse and I separately and tried to get a crowd chant started to drown us out. But both attempts fizzled out and he left.
All glory to our King for this blessed opportunity to openly proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ!
Two verses summarize tonight’s outreach…
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek."
— Romans 1:16
What a major blessing it is to openly and unapologetically proclaim our glorious Savior! As I said, many folks were appreciative upon hearing the preaching of the gospel. And for the many who weren’t… may the Lord be glorified!
“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘The just shall live by faith.’”
— Romans 1:17
As we approached this first stadium outreach, there many unknowns… parking, preaching location, reception from the authorities, weather, foot traffic patterns, and so on. For events like this where much has to be discovered at the outreach, faith and trust in the Word of God and our Savior must be sufficient.
“‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
— 2 Corinthians 12:9
Please pray that God would use our weak and infirm efforts this afternoon and evening for His glory and that many would hear the Savior’s voice…
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
— John 10:27

More About Rod:
Rod Grubb - Nampa, ID
My life’s journey has been marked with periods of atheism, agnosticism and a complete indifference to spiritual things. In 1988, at age 36, my sister led me down “Roman’s Road”, had me repeat a prayer and proclaimed me “saved”. 15 years later, my increasingly wicked lifestyle finally convinced me that something wasn’t right— that I couldn’t possibly be a Christian. Unable to fix my situation myself, it was then that, I truly cried out to the Lord in repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. I had just lived 15 years as a classic example of a false convert! I came to that stunning realization years later, after I was introduced to materials from Ray Comfort and Living Waters.
One of Ray’s books in particular, World Religions in a Nutshell, set me on a path of evangelism. Long story short, this tiny Reader’s Digest-sized book impressed upon me how straightforward evangelism could be. I discovered how God’s Moral Law and the Holy Spirit’s conviction of the conscience really simplified the task of sharing my faith. Suddenly, I didn’t need to be a subject-matter expert on world religions. Evangelism became instantly doable and simple— so simple, even a caveman like me could do it!
I am now happily married, and equally yoked, to my ministry partner, Rosie, who was also trained in the Way of the Master, before we met. In 2010, we inherited an existing evangelism outreach ministry, in Las Vegas, and renamed it Truth 4 Las Vegas (T4LV), for obvious reasons!
Rosie and I recently moved to S.W. Idaho and are now members of Montana Avenue Baptist Church in Caldwell, which is pastored by a Master’s Seminary graduate. PTL, after more than 10 years of continuous evangelism outreach ministry in Las Vegas, T4LV was rebirthed as Truth 4 USA (T4USA)!
Yay Jesus!
