The SFOI Legal Defense Fund is designed to preserve and protect evangelists' free speech rights in traditional public forums according to the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.

The SFOI Legal Defense Fund had three primary objectives:

  • First, to directly and specifically help SFOI evangelists as they work around major sporting events, concerts and festivals.
  • Second, to assist other evangelists likewise working in the public square.
  • Third, contribute to the overall Free Speech work in the US.

Invest

Invest today in the continuation of Free Speech in the US according to US Law.

There are two primary proactive actions SFOI is taking to protect our Free Speech:

  1. Pre-Event Letter where the attorney contacts the host city to find out the rules and regulations for our evangelism
  2. When an evangelist not participating at an SFOI Event receives opposition to his evangelism

  • Pre-event letters that are drafted prior to every event.
  • The pre-event letter contains the following info:  a contact within the respectice police department or Mayor's office; details of the areas where Free Speech activities can occur and where they can't; city ordinances concerning amplification.  The goal is to have a letter outling our liberties and restrictions during the course of the event so the SFOI Team can minister under correctly under the law and have a contact within the Police department if someone seeks to stop the Team's Free Speech.
  • Sample pre-event letters: Super Bowl Outreach '25; Kentucky Derby '25; St. Pete Grand Prix '25; Miami Grand Prix '25; Blue Crab Festival '25; Music City Grand Prix '24.

  • This is a letter to Green Bay, WI, including their subsequent response, when an evangelist that was not at an SFOI event encountered opposition to his Free Speech: Letter to Green Bay.  Letter from Green Bay.

What are the consistent ways which our Free Speech is opposed:

  • Police or security seeking to intimidate us into leaving a legal area.
  • Police or security not knowing Free Speech law telling we are breaking the law.
  • Merchants and event planners seeking to have us removed from a legal area.
  • Event planners violating access to an area that is legal for Free Speech.
  • Merchant and event planners inequitably enforcing Free Speech law.
